A little guide to the game
Getting started
Press Play on the opening screen, or press Enter, to begin. Blocks approach the hexagon from six directions. Rotate the center to choose where they land.
How to play
- Rotate: use the left and right arrow keys or A and D. On a phone, tap the left or right side of the screen. You can also use the arrow buttons below the board.
- Match: connect three or more touching blocks of the same color. Matches can run along one side or across neighboring sides of the hexagon.
- Clear and score: matching blocks burst away, and the blocks above them fall into place. Bigger matches earn more points. Clear another match quickly to build a combo.
- Stay inside the boundary: keep your stacks from growing beyond the outer hexagon. If a stack gets too high, the game ends. Use Restart to try again and beat your best score.
Take a break
Use the pause button, P, or the space bar to pause and resume. Close this guide, then use Resume to continue a paused game.
Sound on/off controls the match sounds. Less motion turns off the splash and shake effects.
About Match Points
I made Match Points during the COVID pandemic. With a lot of free time, I decided to experiment with JavaScript and try building a game of my own.
I love playing games, and I love the process of making them too: taking a small idea, trying things out, and watching it become something you can actually play. Puzzle games are a particular favorite of mine. I enjoy how a few simple rules can turn into a challenge that keeps you thinking, experimenting, and coming back for one more round.
This game grew out of that curiosity and the joy of making something fun. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed working on it.
